Why Raedam? Because the best workplace experience begins in the car park

A few years ago, we noticed that most of the enterprise organisations we worked with had issues with their company parking. Those "issues" manifested in various ways, whether it was not enough parking bays leading to high-utilisation, excessive administrative costs (in both time and money), and subpar employee parking experiences. There was clearly a problem – and no clear solutions, as the facilities management market appeared to lack disruption or innovation in this area.

On top of all that, every parking 'solution' we saw required companies to conform to their platform’s way of handling parking. These ranged from those offering to solve parking problems via tickets, to first-come-first-served permits, to first-come-first-served bookings.

All of these solutions required companies to make a choice between them, and none enabled the flexibility to create a combination – or another approach – that considered an organisation’s unique requirements and policies. Furthermore, none took into account the parking policy nuances that often occur between different sites, regions, or countries surrounding parking, employment law, and environmental impact.

After surveying the landscape, we could see clearly that the industry needed a forward-thinking parking platform that empowered modern parking and facilities managers, and also aligned with equitable and eco-friendly parking policies.

We saw an opportunity to bring some thoughtfulness and (dare we say it?) compassion into workplace parking. Moreover, given our leadership’s background in entrepreneurship and product development, we believed we could bring innovation to enterprise facilities management and spark the same kind of evolution other areas of business – like marketing – had seen over the past decade.

At Raedam, we have reimagined workplace parking to ensure that everyone who needs a parking spot at work can secure one effortlessly, while eliminating wasted space. We knew we could build something that could easily plug into the desk- and room-booking solutions that many businesses have already adopted, and that could integrate into existing car park security systems.

We’ve also gone beyond easy, equitable parking. We see a future where better parking plays a vital role in sustainability. That’s why Raedam’s smart parking management platform collects data about commuting distances and the cars taking on those commutes. If organisations are aware of the impact their commuting staff has on the environment, they are empowered to take informed action to reduce that impact. It’s our goal to support companies in their efforts to incentivise employees to use mass transit, carpool, walk, or ride bikes to the office.

So that’s our goal: to help companies create fair and equitable parking policies, while simultaneously helping them understand and address the impact commuting has on the environment.
